Meri's Bakeshop Cafe is a cozy spot on Ditmars Boulevard that blends the comfort of a local coffee shop with the satisfying heartiness of a neighborhood bakery serving Greek-inspired savory plates. Unlike typical cafés that focus mostly on coffee and pastries, this place offers a more substantial midday option with dishes like leek pie, baked chicken, stuffed peppers, and spinach pies that feel like a welcome extension of the usual coffee break.

The atmosphere here is unhurried and inviting, with plenty of natural light filling the clean and comfortable dining area. It’s the kind of place where people come not just to grab a quick latte, but to linger — whether catching up with friends or finding a moment to relax during a busy day. The service is straightforward and warm, adding to the easygoing vibe that suits both solo visitors and small groups.

Locals seem to appreciate Meri’s as a reliable afternoon spot for snacks and coffee, especially if you’re tired of the grease-heavy pies common elsewhere — their leek pie, for example, strikes a lighter, fresher note. The pastries and desserts also draw repeat visits, with items like lemon berry cake, tres leches, and bread pudding made with care and well-balanced sweetness.

This cafe comfortably occupies a neighborhood niche for those who want good coffee without sacrificing savory, home-style bakery choices. Early afternoons during the week or a quiet weekend brunch feel like the best times to settle in here. Whether you're in for a quick pick-me-up or a slower, comforting meal, Meri’s Bakeshop Cafe offers a space that reflects its community with simplicity and honest flavors.

Our favorite new neighborhood coffee shop! Food is better than any other local coffee place and the coffee is super. We will definitely be coming back regularly. We are excited to try their lunch options.

Late afternoon snack and latte with a friend was excellent. The leek pie was light and not at all oily like I've had before. The dining area is bright, very clean and comfortable. Pleasant and friendly service made the whole experience like a nice addition to this part of Astoria.

The lemon berry cake, tres leches, and bread pudding were all absolutely delicious and clearly made with care. Service with a smile made it the perfect spot to relax, linger, and enjoy every bite.

It does not get better than this! It's a bakery but has more savory food with quick daily plates you can have- Greek style like baked chicken, stuffed peppers and the meat and spinach pies. I LOVE leek pie and this mini leek pie was incredible. The cappuccino was perfectly made, and the ambience could not be better, with space for people to lounge, chat with friends and enjoy good food and drinks on a quiet street.

Words are not enough to describe how good this bakery is! Excellent Greek plates and pies, desserts, coffee, atmosphere and big, honest smiles from Meri and her family! A place like this was missing from Ditmars. Congrats and thank you! Nikos and Artemis

Relaxing atmosphere and friendliest staff. Tried the orange cake and it was heavenly. Great place if you’re looking for a calm place to get any projects done on your laptop, they have plenty of power outlets :)

A fantastic little neighborhood bakery and cafe. Lovely location, absolutely stellar food, and delicious drinks, all for very fair prices. They recently opened, so go show them some love! I recommend the orange cake and the lemon ginger ice tea for warm sunny days.

Was looking for a place to do work with real food (not just pastries) and was pleasantly surprised by not only the food options (not just savory pies but also chicken, rice, stuffed peppers) but also the ambiance and outdoor seating. Wi-Fi worked well. Friendly service. Will be returning!
